Last man to be convicted of codeine sale jailed 4 months

A man who bought codeine-laced cough syrup from a doctor and resold the medicinal product to addicts was jailed for four months on Thursday.

Yap Beng Keong, 38, unemployed, is the last of the four men to be dealt with over the sale of Dhasedyl syrup. He had pleaded guilty to three charges with six others taken into consideration.

The court heard that he bought a total of 180 3.8-litre canisters of cough syrup from his doctor, Ho Thong Chew, 42, for $99,000 early last year.

Yap then went on to sell the canisters at $770 each in Geylang, earning a profit of $39,600.
