China police chief slapped by superior: Xinhua
BEIJING (AFP) - Chinese state media on Wednesday implicitly accused fallen top politician Bo Xilai of striking his police chief, in the most detailed official account yet of the officer's defection trial.
Wang Lijun's flight to the United States (US) consulate in Chengdu, after his relationship with Bo soured, triggered the biggest political scandal to hit China's Communist Party in years and saw the politician's wife Gu Kailai convicted of murder.
The turmoil, months ahead of a generational leadership handover, exposed rifts in the top echelons of the ruling party.
A day after Wang's trial on charges of defection, abuse of power, bribery and other offences, the state-run Xinhua news agency issued an extensive account of the proceedings.
