9 people arrested after police raid on Geylang illegal gambling den


Nine people were arrested on Sept 13 in a six-hour operation for operating and gaming in an illegal gambling den located along Geylang Road.

The suspects were aged between 36 and 61 years old. One of the suspects, a 61-year-old man, operated the illegal gambling den while the rest of the suspects were patrons of the gambling den.

Commander of Bedok Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police How Kwang Hwee said, "We will continue to hit hard at these places which operate as illegal gambling dens under the guise of operating as an association. Those who knowingly allow their business premises or residential units to be used for such unlawful activities can also expect to face the full brunt of the law if they are found to be liable."

Any person guilty of managing or operating an illegal gambling den may face a fine of not less than $5,000 and could face a jail term not exceeding three years. As for the players, any person found guilty will face a fine not exceeding $5,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or to both.
