Ex-teacher in underage boy sex case faces 8 new charges

A female secondary school teacher accused of having sex with an underage boy was on Thursday hit with eight new charges.

The woman, in her early 30s, wore a worried expression when the fresh counts were read to her in court. She was first charged last month with having sex with the student in January this year.

Now, she is accused of doing so another three times during the same month, as well as performing sex acts on him last December. She cannot be named to avoid identifying the boy.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Sharmila Sripathy-Shanaz told the court that if she pleads guilty, the prosecution will proceed on two of the nine charges, with the rest taken into consideration.
