Gene linked to lethal brain cancer found

Scientists here have discovered how to combat an aggressive type of brain cancer.

They have identified a gene in tumours which, if removed, causes a crucial part of the tumours to die. This prevents the disease from spreading and returning.

The scientists' research, published last month in science journal Cell Reports, could lead to new ways to treat this type of brain cancer.

Glioblastoma multiforme is the most common and most lethal form of brain cancer in the world. An aggressive disease, it usually kills patients within 15 months.
