Vietnamese journalist sentenced to 4 years in jail
HANOI (AP) - State-controlled media say a Vietnamese journalist who exposed police corruption through an undercover investigation has been sentenced to four years in prison for bribery.
Tuoi Tre newspaper says its reporter Hoang Khuong was convicted Friday of giving a police officer a bribe of US$710 (S$881) in order to get an impounded motorbike returned.
Khuong paid the bribe as part of reporting on police corruption and later wrote two articles about it that appeared in Tuoi Tre.
The police officer who received the bribe was sentenced to five years in jail in the same trial in Ho Chi Minh City in southern Vietnam.
