Romney accepts Republican presidential nomination
TAMPA, Florida (AFP) - Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney accepted the Republican presidential nomination on Thursday with a prime-time pitch to voters on the final night of the party convention in Tampa, Florida.
"Mr Chairman and delegates, I accept your nomination for president of the United States," the 65-year-old Mr Romney said to massive applause after walking in to a standing ovation that lasted several minutes and beginning his speech.
"I do so with humility, deeply moved with the trust you place in me. It's a great honour, it's an even greater responsibility, and tonight I am asking you to walk with me to a better future."
The speech was interrupted briefly by three protesters, two women and one man.
