Police arrest man involved in multiple taxi thefts

A man believed to be involved in a string of thefts from taxis was arrested on Friday.

The 33-year-old culprit would flag down a taxi, direct the driver to a nearby polyclinic, and upon reaching the destination, tell the driver that he noticed a dent at the back of the taxi or that the rear tyre was punctured. When the driver got out of the vehicle to check the purported damage to his cab, the man would steal their valuables left in the front compartment.

The culprit would then leave the scene abruptly on the pretext of fetching his family member from the polyclinic. He would promise to return soon but never did.

Police said the suspect was captured by the in-vehicle camera installed in the taxi by one of his victims.
