OpenNet to finish 98% residential installations within 3 days
Consumers can count on faster installation periods for high-speed fibre broadband services next year, when new guidelines by the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) come into effect.
The new quality of service standards on OpenNet, which lays the infrastructure for the next generation nationwide broadband network, means that the company must complete 98 per cent of all residential installations within three days of receiving an order from service providers. All remaining orders have to be completed within seven days.
For non-residential properties, OpenNet must complete 80 per cent of orders within four calendar weeks, and complete all orders within eight weeks of the order request.
If the monthly criteria is not met, the IDA can impose a minimum fine of $10,000 per breach each month, up to 10 per cent of the company's annual gross turnover.
