LONDON - Singaporean weightlifter Scott Wong set two national weightlifting records in the clean and jerk and combined total categories over at the British University and College Championships on Sunday, besting his previous marks from last year.

Wong lifted 163kg for his clean and jerk in the 105kg category at London's St Mary's University, smashing his old record of 155kg while his combined total was 290kg - also improving on his national mark by 2kg set last August at the Victoria Weightlifting Association Open. He also won gold in the event, ahead of three other competitors.

The 25-year-old was a former national discus thrower but made the switch to the barbells in 2013 after the Singapore Athletic Association could not fund his flights to compete at the SEA Games in Myanmar that year.
