Top Singapore, Malaysia golfers to square off in Ryder Cup-like tournament

The top golfers from Singapore and Malaysia will be squaring off in the inaugural Causeway Trophy in June.

The event, which is similar in format to the renowned Ryder Cup between Europe and USA, will be held at the Laguna National Golf and Country Club in Singapore for the next three years. Subsequent editions will be rotated between the two countries.

The top 10 players from the country's respective Order of Merits automatically qualify for the tournament. They must either be Singapore or Malaysian citizens.

Each captain is also allowed two picks, which are open to Permanent Residents as well.

Said Singapore team captain Lip Ooi, whose squad will include veterans Mardan Mamat and Lam Chih Bing: "The Causeway Trophy is about creating a friendly rivalry between Singapore and Malaysia golfers and getting more youngsters interested and involved in the sport."
