SINGAPORE - Brunei threatened to cause an upset against Thailand in the SEA Games netball competition on Tuesday, but ran out of steam in the end as Thailand edged them 45-40 at the OCBC Arena.
Outscoring Thailand in the first two quarters, Brunei led 23-18 by the end of a thoroughly engaging first half.
Thai coach Chng Li Li had seen enough, and threw on her captain, goalkeeper Siriwan Seenongsaeng. Her decision paid off as the Thais surged forward in the third quarter, outscoring Brunei 16-5 to take the lead decisively.
Chng said her half-time team talk led the Thais to finally get their act together: "I told them to attack more, stay composed, and to play their own game."
