PARIS (AFP) - Defending champion Stan Wawrinka became the oldest man since 1985 to reach the French Open semi-finals on Wednesday with a 6-2, 6-1, 7-6 (9/7) win over Spain's Albert Ramos-Vinolas.

Third seed Wawrinka, 31, goes on to face either British second seed Andy Murray or Richard Gasquet of France for a place in Sunday's final.

Jimmy Connors was 32 when he reached the last four in Paris in 1985.

Wawrinka fired 49 winners past world No. 55 Ramos-Vinolas.
