Tennis: Maria Sharapova qualifies for WTA Finals Singapore

SINGAPORE - Women's tennis world No. 3 Maria Sharapova has qualified for the season-ending BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global.

This will be the Russian's eighth appearance at the WTA Finals. She won on her debut in 2004, and also reached two other finals in 2007 (falling to Justine Henin) and 2012 (losing to Serena Williams).

The prestigious event will feature the top eight women's singles players and doubles teams of the season battling out for a US$7 million (S$9.9 million) purse. It will take place at the Singapore Sports Hub from Oct 25-Nov 1.
