Former world No. 1 Ana Ivanovic beat Canadian hotshot Eugenie Bouchard 6-1, 6-3 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Wednesday evening, to keep her hopes of qualifying for the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore semi-finals alive.

The Serb, who suffered an opening defeat by defending champion Serena Williams on Monday, broke Bouchard's serve twice and raced to a 5-0 lead in the first set.

Ivanovic eventually won the first set 6-1. Bouchard, making her first appearance at the WTA Finals, looked out of sorts, hitting many shots long and wide.

The second set was much closer but, with the scores tied at 3-3, 2008 French Open winner Ivanovic won three straight games to wrap up the match.
