Doubles acts take stage as event draws near

Kristina Mladenovic and Caroline Garcia (seventh and eighth from left), this year's top seeds in the WTA Finals' doubles competition, will be pitted against Julia Goerges and Karolina Pliskova after yesterday's draw.

Defending champions Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza will face sisters Chan Hao-ching and Chan Yung-jan.

The eight-team event, which has changed to a knockout format, starts tomorrow at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

• Caroline Garcia/Kristina Mladenovic (Fra) v Julia Goerges (Ger)/Karolina Pliskova (Cze)

• Bethanie Mattek-Sands (USA)/Lucie Safarova (Cze) v Timea Babos (Hun)/Yaroslava Shvedova (Kaz)

Bottom half:

• Ekaterina Makarova/Elena Vesnina (Rus) v Andrea Hlavackova/ Lucie Hradecka (Cze)

• Martina Hingis (Sui)/Sania Mirza (Ind) v Chan Hao-ching/ Chan Yung-jan (Tpe)
