Singapore paddler Zeng Jian clinched her third Under-21 women's singles title on the ITTF World Tour yesterday, after beating Hong Kong's Doo Hoi Kem 11-6, 13-11, 11-9 in the China Open final in Chengdu.
"This is a truly amazing experience. What a year I've had - winning the ITTF World Tour U-21 title for the third time. I am so happy and I want to thank Singapore Table Tennis Association, Singapore Sports Institute and my coaches for everything that they've done for me. I will continue to do my best and deliver more medals for Singapore," she said.
Zeng had won the Qatar title in March and the Japan crown in June.
She and Malaysian Alice Chang lost 1-11, 2-11, 8-11 to Chinese Taipei's Cheng Hsien-tzu and Chen Szu-Yu in the women's doubles last 16.
Singapore's Lin Ye lost 7-11, 10-12, 13-11, 8-11 to Japan's Miyu Maeda in the Under-21 women's quarter-finals. Maeda was then beaten by Zeng 10-12, 11-4, 11-9, 11-8 in the semi-finals.
