KUALA LUMPUR - The Singapore women's team will play either North Korea or Romania in the quarter-final of the World Team Table Tennis Championships.
Singapore, the fifth seeds, had beaten third seeds Netherlands on Wednesday (Mar 2) to top Group C and received a bye into the quarter-final. Feng Tianwei and Co. also avoided top seeds China in their bracket, and will face either Japan, South Korea, or Germany in the semi-final, if they get there.
Reaching the semi-final will assure the team of a medal, a feat which they have accomplished since 2008. But it is unsure if Feng can recover in time for the quarter-final, to be played on either Thursday (March 3) or Friday (March 4).
The world No. 8 struggled with a shoulder injury against the Dutch team. Head coach Chen Zhibin said after the match that the injury was "quite serious".
They beat Romania 3-1 in the quarter-finals of the last world team championships two years ago. At the 2012 edition, Singapore beat North Korea 3-0 in the group stage.
The men's team, without injured world No. 21 Gao Ning, will play Denmark for positions 13-24 on Thursday (Mar 3). They lost all five of their group matches.
