Feng Tianwei and Co. opened their campaign at the International Table Tennis Federation World Team Cup in Dubai with a clinical 3-0 victory over hosts United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Thursday.

The trio of Feng, Yu Mengyu and Isabelle Li gave up just 21 points over three matches in the convincing win.

World No. 13 Yu clinched the first win, beating Noura Almaazmi 11-2, 11-2, 11-2 to take the first singles match.

Feng then beat Majd Alblooshi 11-4, 11-3, 11-3 in the second singles before Yu teamed up with Li in the doubles match to win 11-1, 11-2, 11-2.

The team will meet Germany later in the day for their second tie in the group stages, a side that national women's team head coach Jing Junhong said will pose much more problems than the UAE.

"Our players have lost to the German players before, so it will not be as straightforward as it was in the first tie. It's critical that we win so that we are able to get through to the knockout stages as group winners," she told The Straits Times in a phone interview from Dubai.

Singapore won a bronze medal when the last edition was held in 2013.
