Table tennis: Singapore put up eight-gold show at SEA Junior and Cadet Championships

SINGAPORE - The Republic took home eight gold medals out of the 13 titles at stake at the South East Asia Junior & Cadet Table Tennis Championships which ended on Friday (June 16) at the Toa Payoh Sports Hall.

The hosts were crowned winners in the Cadet (Under-15) boys' singles event as Koen Pang beat Thailand's Chanpen Chetthanabodi 4-2. Both the Junior (U-18) boys' and girls' singles events were won by Ethan Poh and Nicole Lew respectively.

In the team events, Singapore's Ethan and Wong Xinru won the Junior mixed doubles event while Tan Enhui and Zhang Wanling won the Junior girls' doubles.

Held across four days, the 23rd edition featured competitors from seven other Asean countries - Brunei, Indonesia, Laos, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam and Malaysia. The tournament was last held in Singapore in 2002.

The winners and runners-up in each of the Junior boys' and Junior girls' team events will qualify for the Asian Junior Championships to be held in Ansan, South Korea from June 29 to July 4 this year.
