SINGAPORE - National table tennis players Lin Ye and Zhou Yihan fell at the final hurdle on Sunday night, losing to China's Chen Meng and Mu Zi at the International Table Tennis Federation Swedish Open women's doubles final.
The Singaporeans, seeded sixth at the tournament, were whitewashed 11-7, 11-9, 11-5 by their unseeded opponents.
Still, their run to the final was a creditable one. The young duo - Lin is 19 while Zhou is 21 - took out a couple of worthy adversaries en route to the final, including Hong Kong's third seeds Doo Hoi Kem and Lee Ho Ching in the quarter-finals.
The Republic's other pair, Feng Tianwei and Yu Mengyu, the top seeds, had a disappointing showing. They were beaten by an unheralded Ruta Paskauskiene and Georgina Pota in their opening match.
