Table tennis: Feng earns place in semi-final at Women's World Cup; Yu out

Feng Tianwei made the semi-finals of the Women's World Cup after beating Japan's Kasumi Ishikawa 11-7, 9-11, 8-11, 11-9, 11-4, 9-11, 11-7 on Sunday at the Kobe Central Gymnasium in Japan.

The world No. 4 Singaporean will play China's Wu Yang (No. 8) next on Monday for a chance to play in her first final in six appearances at the annual tournament.

Yu Mengyu, the Republic's other representative at the event, lost 6-11, 4-11, 2-11, 8-11 to China's world No. 1 Liu Shiwen in their quarter-final encounter.

Yu had come close to causing the upset of the tournament earlier in the day when she led Liu, the defending champion, by three games in their group stage tie before falling 12-10, 11-8, 11-6, 8-11, 2-11, 4-11, 5-11.

She was also a quarter-finalist last year.
