Swimming: Six meet records tumble during finals at S'pore National Age Group C'ships

SIX meet records fell during the finals on the second day of the Singapura Finance 46th Singapore National Age-Group Championships at the OCBC Aquatic Centre on Wednesday night.

In the second men's 800m freestyle final, Bryant Low of Aquatic Performance Swim Club (APSC) broke the Under-17 men's freestyle record with a time of 8min 47.35sec, gunning down his fellow member Benedict Boon's mark of 8:50.18 set two years ago.

The same event also saw Timothy Tan of Elite Swim Club clocking 8:55.43 to lower the U-14 mark of 9:38.85 registered by Isaac Soo last year.

The women's 50m butterfly final saw Hoong En Qi of Swimfast Aquatic Club (SAC) clock 27.50, thus breaking fellow member Nur Marina Chan's U-17 meet record of 27.91. En Qi finished second, behind SAC's Quah Ting Wen (27.12).

Hannah Quek of SAC then broke the women's U-17 200m backstroke meet record with a time of 2:21.35, eclipsing Singapore Swimming Club's Chantal Liew's previous mark of 2:23.83.

Lionel Khoo and Samuel Khoo of SAC then followed up by sending more records tumbling in the men's 100m breaststroke final.

Lionel finished in 1:03.25, lowering his earlier Open record of 1:03.47 set during Wednesday morning's heats. It was the same with Samuel, who clocked 1:04.26, beating his U-17 mark of 1:05.78 also set in the morning.
