Swimming: Katinka Hosszu sets new 100m backstroke short-course world record

DOHA (AFP) - Katinka Hosszu set a new world record in the 100m backstroke at the World Short-Course Swimming Championships in Doha on Thursday.

The swimmer nicknamed the "Iron Lady" responded to being upstaged by Mireia Belmonte on Wednesday, the Spaniard winning the 200m butterfly and 400m individual medley in world record time.

The Hungarian made her move on the third length at the Hamad Aquatic Centre and held off the fast-finishing Emily Seebohm to touch in 55.03 and slice 0.20sec off Shiho Sakai's record from 2009.
