StarHub to broadcast Singapore Sevens

Rugby fans received a boost yesterday after it was announced that StarHub will be the official broadcaster of the HSBC World Rugby Singapore Sevens.

The four-year partnership will see the local telco broadcasting the April 16-17 event 'live' on Singapore's only free sports channel, SuperSports Arena.

All the other legs of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series will also be broadcast on its in-house SuperSports channels. These channels can be accessed on multiple devices including TVs, laptops, tablets and phones.

Fans will also be able to keep up with the latest World Rugby Sevens news through StarHub's daily sports news show SuperSports360 on SuperSports Arena.

Said Rugby Singapore chairman Low Teo Ping: "With StarHub showing the HSBC World Rugby Singapore Sevens 'live', now all of Singapore can share in the excitement of a global rugby event happening on our doorstep."

StarHub chief marketing officer Howie Lau added: "Sport is very important for the diet of Singaporeans so it's important that we have the right type of sporting activities. Our customers will be expecting to be able to watch world-class events."

StarHub will also team up with Fox Sports to bring in sevens rugby legend Waisale Serevi to conduct a clinic for youth in the week of the Singapore Sevens.

Widely regarded as the greatest sevens player, Serevi also coached Fiji to victory in the 2005-2006 World Sevens Series.

Lau added: "Special players like Waisale Serevi do not come around often and we are certain that his wealth of experience will inspire the next generation of Singapore rugby players to reach greater heights."
