Registration for the 10km category of this year's Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore (SCMS) has closed, after more than 20,000 signed up for the event.

Runners interested to take part in the Dec 7 event can still sign up for the 21km half-marathon and full marathon (42.195km) categories.

This year, those taking part in the 10km category will get to compete alongside Haile Gebrselassie. The Ethiopian is a two-time Olympic champion and will be competing for the first time in Singapore.

Organisers have made revisions to the routes for this year's event, in a bid to reduce congestion at the merging points of the various categories.

Runners taking part in the half-marathon will get off the Marina Coastal Expressway (MCE) at the 18km mark, leading to Maxwell Road. This means the approximately 12,000 half-marathoners will be separated from those in the 10km and full marathon, merging only near the finish point.

All categories will continue to be flagged off in waves at different start points to minimise crowding. Runners will also get to run close to the new Singapore Sports Hub this year.

Registration remains open for late entries in the marathon and half-marathon categories, but participants will now have to pay a $20 late fee and will not receive a personalised race bib. For more information, please visit www.marathonsingapore.com
