There is added reason to sign up for next month's Straits Times Run at The Hub if you have not already done so.

The first 170 people who register for the Sept 27 event at this weekend's SG50 Carnival at the Singapore Sports Hub will get a Starbucks goodie bag worth over $100.

Besides two limited-edition Starbucks reusable tote bags, the goodie bag also contains a City Collection tumbler and mug, a full-leaf tea tin (assorted flavours) and a $5 Mini Starbucks Card.

Subsequent registrants at the ST Run booth, which will be open from 9am to 9pm, will get a pair of Compressport Pro Racing Socks V2 Run, worth $30, free while stocks last.

There are three race categories - 5km ($48 to register), 10km ($58) and 18.45km ($68) - and every runner who completes his event gets a limited-edition finisher medal.

Participants are also given free insurance coverage provided by Great Eastern on race day.

The introduction of a new 18.45km category is to mark the 170th anniversary of The Straits Times and the year it was founded.

It will give runners a journey through time via music, images and headlines from the national newspaper over the past years.

While each ST Run participant is entitled to a limited-edition New Balance NB Dry running vest worth $49, those who complete the 18.45km category will also get an additional NB Dry 18.45km tee.

This is the third instalment of the ST Run. The inaugural edition was held at the Punggol Waterway in 2013 and drew 12,000 runners.

Last year's instalment, the first mass run to end under the National Stadium's iconic domed roof, saw more than 21,000 participants.

This year's run will also end inside the National Stadium.

All three editions have been backed by main sponsor Panasonic, which is offering a host of items, from TV sets to cameras, to the top winners. Early birds who sign up will also get a Chan Brothers Travel discount voucher worth $170, a 10-day pass to True Fitness gyms worth $110, and a Casio G-Factory discount voucher worth $30.

In addition, their names also go into a contest draw for a chance to win a 5+2 seater Land Rover Discovery Sport, worth $165,000, excluding certificate of entitlement.
