Yao nominated for NBA Hall of Fame

BEIJING • Former National Basketball Association (NBA) star centre Yao Ming said he is honoured to be named as an NBA Hall of Fame nominee.

The 2.29m Chinese, who had been selected by the Houston Rockets as the No. 1 draft pick in 2002, averaged 19 points, 9.2 rebounds, 1.9 dunks and 1.6 assists for Houston from 2002 to 2011.

Meanwhile, Milwaukee Bucks coach Jason Kidd is to undergo hip surgery and will be sidelined indefinitely.

Srnicek suffers heart attack after jogging

PRAGUE • Former Czech international goalkeeper Pavel Srnicek is in critical condition after suffering a heart attack while out jogging, Czech media and his agent said yesterday.

The DNES broadsheet daily said that the 47-year-old collapsed while jogging on Sunday night in the Czech city of Ostrava.

Srnicek, now the goalkeeping coach at Czech top-flight side Sparta Prague, played for Newcastle in 1991.
