United can win EPL, says Mourinho

LONDON • Jose Mourinho insisted yesterday that Manchester United will be contenders for the English Premier League football title in his first season in charge at Old Trafford, and criticised some of his rival managers for not being brave enough to make the same claim.

United have not won the league title since Alex Ferguson's last season at the club in 2013.

Hart faces uncertain future under Pep

LONDON • Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola cast doubt on goalkeeper Joe Hart's future at the English football club yesterday after indicating that his place in the squad was up for discussion.

Hart, 29, has been City's first-choice goalkeeper for the past six seasons, but British media reports suggest Guardiola wants to replace him with Barcelona's Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Turkey seeks Sukur's arrest in coup probe

ISTANBUL • Turkey has issued an arrest warrant for its former star footballer Hakan Sukur over last month's failed coup.

Prosecutors in Sakarya province, east of Istanbul, have charged Sukur with "membership of an armed terror group" and detained his father yesterday.
