Sunwolves suffer sixth straight defeat

CAPE TOWN • The Sunwolves suffered the sixth straight defeat of their maiden Super Rugby season, losing 19-46 to the Stormers of South Africa on Friday.

The hosts stormed to a 27-0 lead in the first 30 minutes. And, even though the Sunwolves scored three tries through South African full-back Riaan Viljoen (twice) and Japanese scrum-half Yuki Yatomi later on, the Japanese side were left still seeking their first win of the season.


Kerber to face Stephens in Volvo Open s-finals

NEW YORK • Australian Open champion Angelique Kerber eased past Irina-Camelia Begu 6-2, 6-3 on Friday which put her into the semi-finals of tennis' Volvo Car Open clay-court event in South Carolina, United States.

She will next face seventh-seeded American Sloane Stephens, who battled past 18-year-old Russian Daria Kasatkina 6-1, 5-7, 7-5.

Neymar given OK for Rio but not Copa America

RIO DE JANEIRO • Brazilian football superstar Neymar was given the go-ahead to play at the Olympics by his club Barcelona but was ordered not to take part in the Copa America, Brazilian media reported on Friday.

Brazil coach Dunga had earlier hoped to have the influential striker at both tournaments - the Copa from June 3-26 and the Rio Olympics football tournament which runs from Aug 4-20.
