Quek captures SPGA President's Cup

Golfer Quincy Quek closed with one-under 71 yesterday to win the SPGA President's Cup with a four-under total of 212.

The 29-year-old Singaporean finished four shots clear of compatriot Mitchell Slorach (74) at the Mitsubishi Electric/The Cocoa Trees-sponsored event held at the Warren Golf and Country Club.

Former exec to plead guilty in Fifa case

NEW YORK • A former sports marketing executive who was arrested last year in a US corruption probe involving football's global governing body Fifa is scheduled to plead guilty today, according to a court filing.

The plea by Aaron Davidson, who headed the Miami-based unit of Brazilian sports marketing firm Traffic Group, was disclosed in a scheduling order filed in federal court in Brooklyn on Tuesday.

Tennis player gets ban for match-fixing

LONDON • Mexican tennis player Daniel Garza has been suspended for six months and fined US$5,000 (S$6,930) after being found guilty of match-fixing, the Tennis Integrity Unit said on Tuesday. The 31-year-old, ranked 1,065th in singles, had attempted to influence the outcome of a match at an International Tennis Federation Futures tournament at California, in March last year, the watchdog said.

Injury ends Chen's diving career at 23

BEIJING • Chinese five-time Olympic diving champion Chen Ruolin has been forced to retire at the age of 23 due to a problematic neck injury, the country's diving team manager Zhou Jihong said.

Chen, who also claimed six world titles, won the 10m individual and synchronised events at the Beijing and London Olympics before adding a final synchronised gold with partner Liu Huixia at Rio this year.

Warriors to win title, say NBA bosses

LOS ANGELES • The Golden State Warriors are the overwhelming favourites for the 2016-2017 National Basketball Association (NBA) crown, a survey of the league's general managers showed.

The Warriors are backed by a whopping 69 per cent of GMs to regain the title they won last year.

Only 31 per cent of GMs polled backed the Cleveland Cavaliers to mount a successful title defence.
