Ooi beaten in three rounds by Bezhenar

TOKYO • Professional mixed martial arts exponent May Ooi fell to Anna Bezhenar of Ukraine yesterday at the World Series Of Fighting - Global Championship.

The five-time European pankration champion was too much for the 39-year-old to handle as the Singaporean lost by a unanimous decision after three rounds in the strawweight category.

Hogenkamp's win a Fed Cup marathon

PARIS • Richel Hogenkamp earned her place in Fed Cup history while also giving the Netherlands an unexpected 2-0 lead against Russia on day one of their tie in the women's team tennis tournament in Moscow on Saturday.

The world No. 141 outlasted veteran Svetlana Kuznetsova 7-6 (7-4), 5-7, 10-8 in four hours - the longest Fed Cup match.

Isinbayeva's return delayed by injury

MOSCOW • The return to competition of double Olympic pole vault champion Yelena Isinbayeva, 33, was delayed by a leg injury on Saturday when she had to drop out of the Russian Grand Prix in her home city of Volgograd.

She was returning after the birth of her daughter in June 2014.
