NYP marks 20th year of its diploma programme

Nanyang Polytechnic's School of Business Management marked the 20th year since the commencement of its Diploma in Sport and Wellness Management yesterday with a sports seminar, The Business of Sport, which was graced by Baey Yam Keng, Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth.

One of the course's alumni, Fitlion group chief executive officer Tan Tse Yong, also announced a new integrated scholarship programme to provide real-world exposure and employment opportunities to the sports business sector.


James to donate to Muhammad Ali exhibit

WASHINGTON • National Basketball Association player LeBron James will donate US$2.5 million (S$3.6 million) to an exhibit dedicated to Muhammad Ali at the newly opened Smithsonian National Museum of African American History in Washington.

The Cleveland Cavaliers star said that he wanted to pay tribute to the boxing icon's achievements both in and outside the ring.

Ali died in June at the age of 74 after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's disease.

Senior calls it quits after suffering hip pain

SYDNEY • Australian veteran Peter Senior called time on his golfing career after four decades, with "horrendous" hip pain forcing him out of the game.

The 57-year-old, a winner of 34 tournaments worldwide, withdrew from the Australian Open after five holes of yesterday's second round, and immediately declared his retirement.

Compatriot Adam Scott fired a seven-under 65 and is tied-fourth on 138. He trails leader James Nitties (65) by three shots at the Royal Sydney Golf Club.

Keane to leave LA Galaxy next month

LONDON • Striker Robbie Keane will leave LA Galaxy after his contract expires next month, the Major League Soccer club announced.

The former Ireland captain, who retired from international football in August, joined the California-based club from Tottenham Hotspur in 2011.

Keane, 36, scored more than 100 goals in six seasons and was named the club's Player of the Season four times on the trot, between 2012 and 2015.
