Hend wins True Thailand Classic

BANGKOK • Scott Hend continued Australia's impressive run on golf's European Tour this season by holding off the course-record charge of home hope Piya Swangarunporn to win the True Thailand Classic yesterday.

The 42-year-old birdied his 17th hole and went on to sign for a four-under 68 and a 270 total to edge out Piya by one shot. The unheralded Thai, ranked 798th in the world, shot a blistering 63.

Neville sorry as Valencia are beaten by Levante

MADRID • Gary Neville's troubles as Valencia's manager continued as Giuseppe Rossi's solitary strike handed Levante a deserved 1-0 win in the Spanish Primera Liga yesterday.

Neville has now won just three of 15 La Liga games in charge. Valencia are rooted in 12th place, eight points above the relegation zone.

He said: "You can't defend a performance like that. I take responsibility and apologise to the fans."
