LONDON • British police are investigating claims that a young tennis player was poisoned while competing at Wimbledon last month, The Telegraph reported yesterday.

Gabriella Taylor, 18, withdrew from the girls' singles competition and spent four days in intensive care.

Her mother, Milena, insisted that Taylor had been physically well before the tournament and alleged that her daughter's drinks could have been contaminated in the players' lounge.

The player, who has since returned to training, was diagnosed with Leptospirosis, a bacterial infection spread by animals.
