Kyrgios opts to play basketball over tennis
MELBOURNE • Nick Kyrgios has pulled out of tennis' Rotterdam Open in February so he can play in the National Basketball Association (NBA) All-Star celebrity game instead, tournament director Richard Krajicek confirmed on Wednesday.
World No. 14 Kyrgios was suspended for eight weeks on Monday for a perceived lack of effort during last week's Shanghai Masters.
He had signed up to play in the tournament in the Netherlands, but Krajicek said Kyrgios was released from his contract so the Boston Celtics fan can take part in the NBA's mid-season showpiece.
