Garcia to play in SMBC S'pore Open
Spanish golfer Sergio Garcia will take to the greens at next year's SMBC Singapore Open, to be held from Jan 19-22 at the Sentosa Golf Club's Serapong Course.
The 36-year-old, who has nine titles on the PGA Tour and 11 on the European Tour, last played here at the inaugural Tiger Skins at Tanah Merah Country Club in 2002.
Ecclestone's mother-in-law freed
SAO PAULO • Police in Sao Paulo rescued the Brazilian mother-in-law of the Formula One chief Bernie Ecclestone on Sunday, 10 days after she was kidnapped.
Aparecida Schunck, 67, was freed from an apartment on the outskirts of the city. She was uninjured and it appears that none of a reported US$36.5 million (S$48.9 million) ransom was paid. Two men have been arrested.

Ribery warned over Guardiola criticism
BERLIN • French forward Franck Ribery has been called to order by German football club Bayern Munich over his criticism of the club's former coach Pep Guardiola, as well as his conduct on the pitch.
"I think there is no point in having a go at Pep Guardiola now that he has gone," said Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. "We won a lot with him. Seeking vengeance now serves no purpose."
