DPMM thrash Tampines, Geylang defeat Balestier
Brunei DPMM thrashed Tampines Rovers 5-1 last night in their opening The New Paper League Cup Group B game at the Jalan Besar Stadium.
DPMM midfielder Maududi Hilmi Kasmi grabbed a brace while team-mates Adi Said, Azwan Ali Rahman and Shahrazen Said also scored. Jamil Ali grabbed a consolation for the Stags.
In the group's other tie, Geylang International beat Balestier Khalsa 2-0 at the Toa Payoh Stadium thanks to strikes from Amy Recha and Ricardo Sendra.
Lowry, Ibaka ink 3-year extensions with Raptors
LOS ANGELES • Kyle Lowry, 31, re-signed with the Toronto Raptors on Friday as the National Basketball Association (NBA) franchise completed a multi-year deal for free agent power forward Serge Ibaka, 27.
All-Star guard Lowry, who in May hinted he was ready to leave Toronto to increase his chances of winning an NBA championship, has re-signed on a reported three-year deal worth US$100 million (S$138.2 million). Ibaka re-signed for three years for US$65 million after joining Toronto from Orlando Magic in February.

Team shave their heads in cancer solidarity
MADRID • The entire Athletic Bilbao squad have shaved their heads in solidarity with team-mate Yeray Alvarez, who is undergoing chemotherapy for testicular cancer.
The Spanish football team surprised the 22-year-old midfielder, who was forced to withdraw from the Spain Under-21 side last month after suffering a relapse, with their new look as he arrived at the club's dressing room for a visit.
The club also posted a photo on Twitter of the entire squad arm-in-arm along with the caption "We are with you Yeray".
