Cherie and Jazreel fare well in US events

BATON ROUGE (Louisiana) • Singapore bowlers Cherie Tan and Jazreel Tan finished third and fourth respectively at the prestigious United States Bowling Congress Queens tournament on Tuesday.

The duo were among the top five who made it to the step-ladder finals from a field of 162 bowlers at the event, the first Major of the 2017 Professional Women's Bowling Association (PWBA) season.

Latvia's Diana Zavjalova won the Queens event.

Cherie also took fourth place in the PWBA Fountain Valley Open event, which held its finals on the same day. American Kelly Kulick won the event.

Indonesia make early Sudirman Cup exit

Inaugural Sudirman Cup winners Indonesia were dumped out of the world mixed-team badminton tournament in Gold Coast, Australia despite beating second seeds Denmark 3-2.

India, the other team in their group, are through having won more matches, while the Danes qualified for the last eight as group winners.

Lifter Tan earns bronze in Masters

Singaporean weightlifter Tan Lay Sang, 51, won a bronze at the prestigious World Masters Games in Auckland.

At the April 21-30 competition, she set a personal best by lifting a total 99kg (43kg snatch, 56kg clean and jerk) but missed out on silver by just 1kg in the 69kg category for the 50-54 age group.
