Balestier miss chance to close gap on DPMM

Home United beat Balestier Khalsa 2-0 last night, giving hope to Brunei DPMM's title chances after the Tigers failed to reduce the six-point gap at the top of the S-League table.

Warriors FC and Albirex Niigata are level on 36 points after 2-0 wins against Hougang United and Geylang International respectively.

The positions of bottom-two clubs Hougang and Geylang remain unchanged, with the Eagles having a game in hand.


Gunners fined for breach of football agent rules

LONDON • Arsenal have been fined £60,000 (S$128,358) and warned over their future conduct for falling foul of football agent rules in the transfer of Calum Chambers from Southampton, the Football Association has announced.

Chambers moved from Saints to the Gunners in July last year for an undisclosed fee, believed to be about £11 million (S$23.5 million).

Dwight Yorke to be next Aston Villa manager?

LONDON • Dwight Yorke, the former Manchester United star, wants to be Aston Villa's next manager, after the English football club sacked Tim Sherwood on Sunday.

Yorke, who also scored 97 goals in 294 games as a Villa player, believes that his inexperience will not be a problem and that young managers should be given opportunities.

Villa are reportedly keen to hire former Lyon manager Remi Garde.

Flip Saunders loses cancer battle at 60

NEW YORK • Minnesota Timberwolves president of basketball operations and head coach Flip Saunders has died at the age of 60 after a battle with cancer.

Saunders, a veteran of 17 National Basketball Association seasons who posted a career record of 654-592, was diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma, a cancer of the immune system, in June.
