He beat almost 300 other entries to win a Liverpool jersey signed by a former player, but Benjamin Lew got so much more when he arrived at the Swissotel The Stamford on Saturday afternoon.

The 15-year-old student was also surprised when he got to attend a meet-and-greet session with Reds legend John Barnes, who personalised his autograph for the St Joseph's Institution student.

Said Benjamin: "I feel very fortunate. There are many Liverpool supporters in Singapore and I knew it was going to be hard to win the contest. This is extra special for me."

He had given the correct answer to a question ST posed during the Merseyside derby last weekend, asking which Liverpool player was the all-time top scorer for a Liverpool-Everton clash. The answer is Ian Rush.

Barnes is in town in support of the Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore, which takes place on Sunday morning.
