Singaporean breaks 3 world records in powerlifting championship

SINGAPORE - Powerlifter Chew Feng Yi, 28, broke three Global Powerlifting Alliance (GPA) world records on Friday, Mar 13. She is the first Singaporean female to break records in the squat, bench press and deadlift categories.

At the Arnold Classics Australia held at Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, Chew competed in the under-48 kilogramme, open category, raw division where the use of knee sleeves or wraps are disallowed.

She lifted 120kg, 62.5kg and 150kg in the squat, bench press and deadlift segments respectively, with a total weight lifted of 332.5kg, smashing the previous record of 235kg by a massive 97.5kg.

After her victory, she thanked her family, friends and coach in a Facebook post for all their tremendous support leading up to the competition.
