Singapore national football team to play Laos and Myanmar as Malaysia friendlies cancelled

The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) has announced that next month's friendly matches against Malaysia have been cancelled.

Originally scheduled to be played on June 4 (in Shah Alam) and June 7 (Jalan Besar), the Lions will spar with Myanmar in Yangon and Laos in Vientiane instead.

According to the FAS, the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) informed them on Wednesday that their national football team is unavailable to play in the Causeway Challenge, a home and away friendly series between the two neighbours.

Lions team manager Azrulnizam Shah said: "We were looking forward to the Causeway Challenge which had been agreed upon earlier and hence we are disappointed that it has now been cancelled."

The matches against Malaysia would have given new national coach Bernd Stange an early taste of the intense rivalry between the Lions and the Tigers.

Azrulnizam added that the national squad will be announced next Monday.
