SINGAPORE - Waterskier Mark Leong finished first in the men's slalom preliminaries with a score of 2.50/58/12.00m, setting a new SEA Games and national record at the Bedok Reservoir on Friday morning.
The 17-year-old Singaporean's score means he passed 2.5 buoys going at a maximum speed of 58kmh using a 12m rope.
The point is to clear as many buoys as possible on the shortest rope.
The previous Games record was 1.00/58/12.00m set by Wangka Fath Daud of Indonesia in 1997.
Mark had held the previous national record. He had set it at last year's Asian Beach Games, when he cleared one buoy on a 12m line.
The Singaporean will compete for gold in the final on Saturday.
