The Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) has approved an initial list of 286 athletes from 24 sports to represent Singapore at December's SEA Games in Myanmar.
This includes the national Under-23 football team, as well as the table tennis team, who got the go-ahead from a 13-member selection committee chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean, who is also the SNOC's president.
The five sports which submitted nominations but did not get the nod of approval are: weightlifting, volleyball (women), chess, karate and muay thai.
National sport associations have until Aug 19 to submit appeals. An appeals committee will meet on Aug 30 to deliberate over the appeals, before all entries by name have to be submitted to the Myanmar organising committee on Nov 6.
