SINGAPORE - Thai shooters dominated the National Shooting Centre outdoor range on Wednesday morning as Ratchadaporn Plengsaengthong, Thanyalak Chotphibunsin and Sununta Majchacheep claimed the top spots in the women's 50m rifle prone event.
They finished with the top three scores of 623.6, 623.5 and 622.6 respectively. Chotphibunsin retains her silver medal from last Games while Plensaengthong moved up from a 2013 bronze to a gold.
But as SEA Games rules dictate that one National Olympic Committee can only win a maximum of two medals in an event, Singapore's Jasmine Ser, who was fourth behind with 621.8 points, was awarded a diplomatic bronze, her first title in the non-Olympic event.
Said Ratchadaporn: "The win came as a surprise to me. I thought I would get a silver or a bronze but I'm happy to have won the gold."
Said Ser: "Today was a test of my endurance and determination and to score so closely with the heavyweights (Thais), I'm very satisfied with my performance."
The men's event will take place later on Wednesday.
