SINGAPORE - The Singapore sailing team collected their second SEA Games gold medal of the day after Jodie Lai won the female optimist (U16) event on Saturday afternoon.
Starting the medal race in first place with a two-point lead over Nazri Nabila Natasha, the 14-year-old had to finish above her Malaysian opponent to avoid a tie-breaker. And she duly obliged in the last part of the race, catching the wind to overtake Nazri. She finished with 13 points, ahead of the Malaysian's 17. Thailand's Kamonchanok Klahan took the silver with 15.
In the male Optimist event, Singapore's Daniel Ian Toh had to settle for the bronze, after finishing with 17 points.
Malaysia's Kaman Shah Muhammad Fauzi (12) took the gold, while Thailand's Suthon Yampinid (16) pipped Daniel to the silver.
