SINGAPORE - Singapore's double-handed 470 men's sailors caught the right winds in their sails as they captured a gold on Saturday afternoon at the National Sailing Centre.
The Singapore team, boasting 2013 SEA Games bronze medallist Darren Choy and his teammate Jeremiah Yeo, came in third in Saturday's race. But their four-point lead over the Philippines and their successful attempt in fending off the Philippine challenge later helped them clinch the gold with 18 points.
The Philippines' Lester Troy Tayong and Emerson Villena finished with 24 points while Thailand's Thanaphong Kamonvat and Navee Thamsoontorn clinched the bronze, finishing with 25 points.
In the women's 470 race, Singapore's Amanda Ng and Savannah Siew finished third on 26 points but were not awarded a bronze as there were only three participating teams.
Malaysia's Nuraisyah Jamil and Norashikin Mohamad Sayed finished first with 13 points while Thailand's Panida Suksomporn and Narisara Yu-sawat clinched the silver with 18 points.
