School sports: Zane Chong wins javelin title with personal-best throw

Raffles Institution student Zane Chong, 18, won the A Division boys' javelin final at the National Inter-School Track and Field Championships on Tuesday, clinching the title for the first time after a spectacular 54.77m throw which far eclipsed his previous personal best of 49.59m.

Close rivals Hwa Chong Institution took the next two spots, with Boonchuaysream Phonkrit coming in second at 52.31m and Puay Shaun Yu coming in third at 51.48m.

In the B Division girls' triple jump final, Singapore Sports School's Jezebel Koh, 15, managed a distance of 10.92m to retain her title, but admitted that she was slightly disappointed with her performance as she had been aiming for a distance of 11.2m.

Cedar Girls' Secondary swept the remaining two positions, with Nicole Sng coming in second at 10.71m and Daphne Kwok just behind in third place at 10.69m.
