Lynette Lim of Victoria Junior College set a new national triple jump record on Thursday morning, setting an 11.89m mark at the Schools National Track and Field Championships A Division final at Choa Chu Kang Stadium.

The 16-year-old broke the old national mark of 11.79m on her sixth and final attempt. The previous mark was also held by her, set at last year's Schools' National B Division finals.

"I had to break it," said a delighted Lynette. "I saw my seniors break their own personal bests and was extra motivated to record my own as well (in the last jump)."

Her coach, John Seem, believes that Lynette is well-equipped to deal with competition stress.

"She doesn't put too much pressure on herself, she enjoys herself, I think that's one of her strengths," he said. "She doesn't worry too much, she just focuses on doing her best, and things happen."
